Spinal Cord Injury Research Study

You are invited to participate in a research study exploring identity development following a spinal cord injury. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of a questionnaire that may be used by mental health care providers to determine how a person integrates their spinal cord injury into their identity. The questionnaire will assist mental health care providers in treatment planning and will also provide guidance for future research.

If you are 18 years or older and have experienced a spinal cord injury due to a traumatic injury or a disease, you are eligible to participate. A better understanding of your experiences following an injury to your spinal cord may benefit others who have also experienced a spinal cord injury and those who may experience a spinal cord injury in the future.

To participate, please follow this link to take part in a research study exploring identity following a spinal cord injury.

You will be taken to an online survey that should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. All participants who complete the survey will be given the opportunity to enter a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card. To enter the drawing, participants must be willing to provide their email address. All email addresses will be placed in a data file separate from the survey answers protecting the anonymity of participants. This data file will be destroyed following the gift card drawing and will be used for no other reason. Your chance of winning the drawing of the gift card is approximately 1 in 300. Providing an email address is not required to complete the survey; however, it is required if you wish to be placed in the drawing. Participants may choose to exit the survey at any time.

At the end of the survey you will be asked if you can be contacted for a follow-up survey in four weeks. To participate in the second portion of this research study, participants will be asked to provide their email address which will then be placed in a separate data file. After the second survey has been sent, all email addresses will be destroyed. Following completion of the second survey, participants will be given a second opportunity to be placed in a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card. No participant will be contacted without their permission. Participation in the second portion of the research study is not required to participate in the first portion.
